Kids and a clutter-free clean-looking house?

Yes, it’s a possibility but bear in mind, only in the shorter term. In the longer run, the real challenge is to have the clutter but manage it in a more aesthetically pleasing way. This becomes an even bigger challenge when you have only 1 main living space in the entire house (as is the case with the British way of life).

If you are in this predicament, like me, you don’t just have to find storage solutions for those colourful toys, books and other Bric a Brac but have to do it in a style that blends in with the decor. Sometimes I do wish life was a book of magic and happy endings and I had someone like Mary Poppins in my life ?.

But then a wish is a wish. I might not have Ms Poppins but I do have the likes of velvet finish storage boxes, wicker baskets, vintage canvas baskets & other genius storage solutions that are more in keeping with the decor while offering the much-needed storage and hence making this challenge of decluttering slightly easier for decor-obsessed mums like me ?.

Here’s a small list of storage hacks that serve the purpose while sporting good looks:

– Wicker /Vintage style canvas Baskets:

These Baskets are a game changer! Not only are they practical, but are a treat to look at and add a rustic charm to any room. It’s double the advantage, you get a place to store those dinky cars, dolls, books yet add character to your living space.

– Multipurpose pieces:

When choosing furniture like footstools, coffee tables etc. It’s best to look for ones that have that extra bit of hollow storage space. Multipurpose items like these are key to any functional, organised space and the best part is they blend in with the decor.

– Storage Benches:

As much as the transparent storage boxes are sturdy, they are a bit of an eyesore if made to sit as a permanent fixture in the living room. A better solution is to have a storage bench that looks more like decor and less like a place to stow away toys while offering additional seating at the same time so it’s a win-win!.

In addition to these, there are many more clever solutions on offer in the market & the best part is they are easily available to suit all budgets. Some of the budget-friendly  UK stores that I personally like for stocking good looking decent products for a fair price are:
